Statement

 Mary Stephens’ work is derived from observations made in the surrounding landscape of the South East of England and she produces paintings, prints and photographs inspired by her meanderings through nature. The nuances discovered within the subject are seen as metaphor for human experience.

 Recent work includes prints and drawings depicting various trees at certain times of the year. Ever changing, these steadfast companions to our existence remind us of the beauty and transience of life. Mary is a former member of Art Space, Portsmouth and was a founder member of Omega Printmakers where she taught printmaking for a number of years. Since retiring from teaching Mary has been focusing on drawing and painting.
